The Birkenhead Licensing Trust was established in 1967 to operate on and off licences for the sale of alcohol in the old Birkenhead Borough Council area.
The Trust currently owns two establishments: The Good Home in Birkenhead and the Inn Field in Glenfield.
The profits from these two locations and the net proceeds from the Lion Foundation gaming machines located in each bar, are distributed monthly to community groups in the Trust’s local area. In the 2023/2024 period the Trust distributed close to $1,800,000 of net proceeds to groups in the Birkdale, Beachhaven, Birkenhead, Glenfield and Northcote.
The Trust has six elected trustees. The trustees are elected at the same time as the Auckland Council local body elections. The trustee’s role is to oversee the businesses and to consider and approve net proceed grants to local community groups.
